This adapter lets you use a single-jack, 4-pole headset with a computer that has separate headphone and microphone ports. It combines a 3.5mm stereo audio plug and a 3.5mm mono microphone plug into one female 4-pole jack, so a headset built for phones and tablets can be used on a desktop or laptop with two separate 3.5mm ports.
The wiring follows the common 4-conductor layout used by single-jack headsets, with the microphone on the tip, left and right audio on the next two bands, and ground on the third band. Because of this pinout, it is intended for headsets built to this same 4-pole standard and is not suitable for headsets wired to a different pin configuration.
